nothing much of anything

 but it caught a few eagle eyed readers

as did the heart

!!!???

see...just a circle with a little embellishment 

and a piece of felt for the beak....

do owls have beaks or is there another name for it???

hmmmm!!!

I did

16 sc in a magic ring and made three rows with different colours

(try to go in between the stitches on the second row, not into the top of the stitch

so you get a pattern of sorts 

uneven tho' it may be!!!!  :) :)

change colour

as many times as you like

then make two triangular shapes somewhere on the edge

for the back of the eyes

do something like

sc hdc dc tdc dc hdc sc

twice

make two small circles for the eyes

I did 7 sc in a magic ring

attach them to the triangles with a french knot or if you can't do that 3/4 straight stitches

if you have bits and bobs of yarn sew a few stitches here and there

a triangle of felt and another to cover the back to hide all the knots and ends

e voila.....

hooty patooty

 and 

you will find many patterns there

I haven't a clue which one I used

so take your choice of what you find!!!!

we didn't get any of the storm that ravaged the coast

there are no words left to describe what must be going on up there

one of the blogs I read has finally come back up

they were without power for

8 days

 they aren't on the coast

and it snowed on them yesterday but thankfully they kept the heat

and it's only the beginning of November

we may not say anything but believe me we think of you all 

every time we switch a light on or the furnace clicks on

or we feel the hot water

my gentle giant is finally turning

and we had some blue sky

but it's a tad on the chilly side for this time of year

I'm not complaining...it's nesting weather!!!

this country may have the biggest strongest most powerful military in the world

but it still can't use all that power to hold back a storm

the likes of which we have never seen before

but 

if you are one of the few who believe that  this planet is going through changes

we will see again...

last night we were told that things are gearing up

weather wise

for another off shore storm

not a hurricane
but maybe a

Nor'easter

they don't know for sure

but it's a big maybe

I'm sure you've seen the pictures
 on line
on TV
and in the newspapers

heard the stories

seen the horror and sadness

the heartbreak of a group of people caught up in

the changes

this has happened in other parts of the world lately

bigger storms

stronger storms

violence brought down on puny humans 

who can't do anything but get out of the way

hundreds of thousands of little tiny people facing
Nature 

that does what it does
without emotion or malice or thought

it isn't "God" punishing anybody for anything

not for who you love

or marry

what your skin colour is

how much money you have

or don't have

there is no reason

other than
planets go through changes...(or we wouldn't be here??!!)
and 

we've not been very intelligent about how we do things

and I don't see us changing anything soon to  

"fix what we broke"

no one listens anymore

and those that have the power and the money

don't care

very much

sorry but that's how I see it

politicians talk

leaders talk

power companies make excuses and say it's too costly to put the utilities underground and quite frankly I'm not sure how they would do it no after all this time..have you seen neighborhoods lately???

gas companies wait to turn the gas off ???

they don't use common sense and just do it

mandatory evacuations aren't mandatory....
from now on they should be...

as the saying goes

you can replace a house but not the people 

but some think they are untouchable

I understand completely about not wanting to leave

wanting to stay with all your 

stuff

and hang on to what you know

but you can't 

not when a monster comes crawling up the coast

 it doesn't care that grandma's stuff is in the attic

and that you want to keep it

it doesn't care...

no amount of preparedness

by us
 or the government

is enough
by the looks of it

the declarations of emergency were declared

well before the storm

supposedly things were moved into place

I saw the streams of linesmen coming into the areas

all lined up and ready to go

they closed the bridges and tunnels and everything else to try to stop the people from moving
we had warning
and to be completely fair
most people listened and did what they should
when they act sensibly...
and now what...
the most densely populated area is in shambles
it's almost too much to comprehend
it goes on for miles and seemingly forever
and it's so sad
so very very sad
and the one thing that I can't stop thinking about
is that
I keep hearing that they don't have shoes
I am fixated on that fact it seems

they don't have shoes...
...........................................?

hopefully it will all start moving faster and things will start being done to help rather than hinder
it's been four days now and the shock is wearing off
and
 they'll start getting angry
and
I for one don't blame them if it doesn't get moving soon
clear heads need to go and help
it's a huge and complicated problem to solve


but
 it's going to take time to clear it and fix it
and
"make it all like it was before"
and not much will change
because it seems

that isn't what we do
we want to keep grandmas stuff
up in the attic
where we think it belongs.

after scary high winds that made such a noise I had to turn the TV up  (imagine)

rain that was truthfully welcome

as it came without the accompanying thunder and lightning

and most important of all

power throughout the long long day

we are on the other side of the 

super storm and still standing

others have not fared as well and my heart truly aches for them

we didn't have cable or internet when I got up so I'm still catching up with the whole story

what I have seen is devastation and mayhem

and very wet and worried people

but it seems they were as prepared as one can be

so now it's just the hard, heart breaking slog back to normal

too many too often these past two years... and still hours to go before it's over....

I tried to take pictures but there was nothing to see really

it rained.....

the leaves were blown around

and on TV this man showed us where he thought the water would go to in NYC

he was wrong

for those of you who don't know him

he is Jim Cantore

weatherman extraordinaire

able to point up lamp posts like no one else!!!!!!!

he has a reputation

it goes something like this...

if you see this man in your town

run.....

run as fast and as far away as you can

because he only shows up

(beforehand mind you)

where it will be the worst

he was a few miles off this time

meanwhile I got bored so I made a cake

notice the resemblance anyone????

Hey Dutz.....

that's the silver lining.... if the storm hadn't come.... I wouldn't have baked a cake

hopefully the sun will come out tomorrow and I will be able to switch the lights off during the day

am going to see how everyone else fared in blog land
