holy crapola batman

its friggin freezing

what happened

it snowed south of us

SOUTH of us

we got high winds and the temperature plummeted 

and the hour change that we had

made it worse

it got dark so fast it felt weird

so I made a big pot of beef barley soup

toasted some bread and sat on the couch soup cup in hand

which was cold the hand not the soup!!!!!

sweater wrapped tight and pouted

which of course did no good at all but it felt good

this morning was colder than yesterday

so this is what I'm wearing today

I don't think I've shown it

gaggles of geese and a popcorn sky

today I saw something I've never seen before

an almost pile up of two flocks of geese as they came in for a landing on the lake

I heard a mighty noise outside

 and opened the door to see them 

they honk very loudly to announce their arrival 

and those already here answer, so it's noisy sometimes!!!!!

and from the North came about 40 flying over us as they glided in

and just as they got close to touchdown

another

 bigger group

 appeared from the West 

and they all had to put on the brakes and swoop and swerve to avoid each other...

I couldn't believe what I was seeing....

no, of course I don't have pictures of it

it all happens so fast 

 one would have to sit and wait all day and all night for a week to get something like that!!!

anyway, while I was watching all this I noticed the sky had many different kinds of clouds

so those I got

and then the sun shone right in my eyes

 and with them closed

I took the last one!!!!

soon the full moon will be up to shine on those clouds

should they hang around

and it's going to be noisy tonight on the lake

they'll be telling stories about their journey's 

all

night 

long

goosey it's cold outside

not going to mention the weather

we all have some sort of something

but the geese were lamenting the fact early this morning

poor things

the lake froze overnight

except for where they were

well some of them

think they were taking turns sitting on the ice or the water

we have had so many fly in

I am attempting to catch the fly in

which is hard to do as they fly in so fast

and I have to run for the camera!!!!

but mostly I want to capture the noise that erupts

as the new lot call to the ones already here

and they answer

and the splash down

I swear they say who they are and where they've been and how things are on the route

I love it

I always will

so while the geese are a'floatin'

I'm still

a'tattin'

(and reading)

just practicing and trying out what's what

the shuttle is just a "pretty" that sits in the box

the needle is to my liking and maybe I'll do a little demo

as so many don't know what tatting even is

 

I made the "Dorset button" yesterday

just playing with whatever came into my head

and now a days

there isn't too much of anything in there!!!!

friday fotos!!!

another week gone

this one faster than most for some reason

one filled with worldly events that come home so strongly when you have kids

or are just someone who cares

and questions too

why is it that the death of some children in some countries cause more grief and discussion than other children in other countries

we should all scream our heads off each time a child is killed, for whatever reason

war, accident, murder, terror or hatred

in this country we are facing once again the question of race

and the answer is the same and we are dumbfounded that it is

maybe this time it will be different

maybe this time it will bring about a change
maybe the subject can be dealt with openly and justly
because not talking about it and pretending everything is just fine ....isn't the way

maybe....

what's so scary (and interesting in a way)  is that the way both of the shooters in the stories I refer to where described by neighbours in the same way

such nice boys, so polite and helpful.

with the reflections I have gone mad trying to find a place where there are none

husband bought me the bell jar as a surprise because I mentioned getting one so it doesn't get dusty and yucky

but each time he asked me if I had found one or bought one

he got the same reply

DOH!!!!

so he went ahead and got it

and speaking of husband

as I started making him something for breakfast this morning

I spied once again something on the lake

or to be precise the dock on the lake

two shapes I have never seen here before

so breakfast abandoned

you know how I can do that in the blink of an eye when blue needs to be got and pictures need to be took

and

knowing how skittish wild ones are I took a couple from inside

but it's ridiculous with no zoom lens

so I sneaked through the trees and bushes once again to get as close as I could

and I was doing really really well when

KABOOOOM

the expletive deleted marines shot the cannon and scared said birds right outta here

damn them

so I left the photos big and you get the gist of what they looked like

I think

and am pretty sure
they are Cormorants

and what they are doing here

 is beyond me...
we won't be tying these to strings and making them fish for us!!!

I've been wondering about  this

Year Without Winter

I remember reading, a couple of years ago now,

 about the Year Without a Summer

when Krakatoa blew up and the planet experienced no Summer that year

it was quite bad, as the crops didn't grow because the sun was obliterated and the temperatures were low

should go back and find it

all the trees have bloomed and already the flowers are gone

we need rain badly

and this weekend may bring some

 so let's hope

yes for rain

all the plants in the garden are budding and blooming

way too early so it will be an empty summer if they all come out now

the farmers are worried that a cold spell will come and kill all the crops

it could still happen

I say Euonymos and husband says not

Another visitor

who stops by in the early morning is a heron, who fishes off the bank.  I can't get a closer photo of him because he sees me..... hanging out of the door, as I have to, to get this.  I have thought of hiding behind a tree and hoping he comes by, but I think the neighbours might call the men with the white jackets and the net, if I do. So this is as close as we can get, for now.  Right after I took this, the rowdy ducks arrived and completely pissed him off.  He slowly rose and flapped away. He too is more regal.
