torpid tuesday

if a day can be

torpid

this morning had a feel to it

when I got up

the lake was as clear as a mirror

there was a lot of wild life going on out there

ducks and geese and herons and turtles

and they all

disappeared

upon my arrival

the baffle head mama duck had the babies out

and she was sitting on a log in the water

and a few of the babies were with her and the others were swimming in circles around her

making ripples

the heron was standing on the dock

and the geese were over at the other side of the dock

just their heads showing

such a great shot

I tell you

but you will never see it

as I said

they were gone in an instant

pooff

gone

but it didn't stop me from

snapping

the one above is me trying to be artsy

and here you can almost see the geese through the trees and bushes

the ivy trees 

the husband joined me

and scared away all the birds I was trying to shoot

as he sneezed a rather loud and mighty sneeze

and then instructed me to take a few shots of the

ivy trees

the one above is what he saw

he planted the ivy a few years ago

and up the trees it went

there is none left on the ground

as he cleared it when the house next door was being fixed

and the neighbour now doesn't mow down there

the sun was at the wrong angle to show it properly

but you get the drift

the magnolia is being uncooperative this year

all the flowers are way up high and I can't get them

the one I tried to snap was full of bugs and nasty creepy crawlies and I got covered in

eeewwwwww

this is called gold dust

it's a little bush

it's all that's left of the

very big one we had

before it was moved

it shouldn't have been moved

as it was just fine where it was

and it was happy where it was

and it showed its displeasure by

dying

.....

the day lilies are blooming

they are happy and where they belong

and no one is going to move them

:) :) :)

then the wind started blowing and the humidity started floating in

and I left the outside

and came back

inside

.......

where I finished my latest

 melon addition

these aren't melons but they are made with the

never ending supply of

melon coloured yarn

I got to play with my

sewing machine

and use the old noggin to make a lining for it

which isn't difficult but you do have to remember how

especially those corner bits that make it stand up

.....

and of course it was finished off with my favourite

edging stitch

and it was nice to play with the fabric for a change

in between

being alert for the sounds of being needed

as the husband is working outside

and

doing various and sundry

and using all his

noisy toys

but it's getting done and he doesn't seem to need help

I did get to power wash the table tops and the

nasty trash compactor

but I was forbidden to wash the patio

yes I said

forbidden

this is the only melon I have left

the others I made have gone to others

and that's a good thing

sunday stuff

its' been like waiting for the other show to drop

they said there would be rain

so the husband stopped doing what he had been doing and found something else to do

I did what I should have done on Friday!!!

and now all is done

and there is still no rain

but it's humid and cloudy

so it must be close by

we need it after all that heat

that sucked the earth dry and it's coming back again next week

like a roller coaster

up and down

 down and up

enough to give you seasickness

with all my yarn in the new cubbies

I know what I have now

and found some that I didn't remember why I had bought it

so I took it all and with a big hook

I made a basket

yes, another one!!!!

I have a bunch of these little jars

that had fruit in them

I love the little handles on them

so when we go to the store that has them

I get 4 or 5

and the other day I found this block in the bottom of a pile of lonely blocks

so I stuck it on top of the jar

e voila

a granny button jar!!

because I have nothing better to do

I put it up on flickr

and Mary suggested I put a button in the centre

so I did

it's one of the buttons a friend sent me

she found a big bag of buttons at a yard sale for a buck

and thought of me and sent them

lots of them

some look quite old so I started sorting them into the jars

I like lots of things to look at

I am a visual person

hence the many things to see in my room

!!!!

and while flipping through flickr there were certain persons who posted their latest meals

and I got peckish and realised it was lunch time

so I went and made a salad

husband does not eat this

so it was just for moi

tomatoes, cucumber, artichokes and avocado

with a pinch of walnuts

and a drizzle of olive oil and lemon juice

YUMMM!!

and at the first available opportunity

this is mine too

I can't wait to get the juice all down my front

and someone ate the bloom off the

HYDRANGEA

so it's looking pretty on the table

maybe I'll go and get a couple more

before the rain comes

proof of voles

this was taken on 5/15

the hostas growing and thriving

and even setting blooms

this is what I found

this morning

it has pulled the plant down

underground

and it is no more

if there is a creature on this planet that I

HATE

do not like

it is a

vole

now all the others are at risk

just when I thought all was well

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

five days later!!

It's five days since I wrote anything here

don't know where they went

but they went

time seems to be speeding along

faster than ever

one would think that for someone who doesn't have kids or a job

time would stand still or move very slowly

but it doesn't

I remember as a child thinking that

half an hour was an eternity

my mother would say

you can't do that for half an hour

and I would sit and wait

and it would seem like forever

then when the kids came

half an hour was like five minutes

remember nap time

put them down

think you have a couple of hours

and that seemed like

five minutes too

and now five minutes

is like

one

so five days is like

a half an hour

if you get my drift

my hunt for inspiration has continued

but I finished what I had started

for a change

and now I am over the

watermelons

I have satisfied my need to

make anymore

but I did learn a couple of things along the

watery way

finally now I can join two colours properly and there isn't that little

'jig' up or down at the end of the row

so that was good

and the resident handy man is using his

Papa's Day present and finishing what was started

ooooo

I don't know

four years ago!!!

there are ladders and nails involved

so I have to stay alert to sounds of things falling

and so far....none have been heard

the weather is fabulous

so that is good

after a few days of hell on earth

it has become spring like again

it's absolutely

heavenly

I sat out and enjoyed it for a while

until the bees and wasps and ants got to me

god I hate all the bugs and creepy crawlies out there

but while I was there it was

gorgeous

that is good too

and this little guy stopped by for a visit

husband found him crawling through the back on his way to the lake

the turtle not the husband!!!

I think it might be a snapper

because he hasn't got the flap in the front like a box turtle

but I don't know!!!

not so good

 if you put your finger too close to his mouth...

chomp!!!!

what I do know

 is that this little guy is the

cheekiest, chattiest, funniest little thing ever

it's a cat bird

or as I have said

the stud in the rug

lousy picture I know but he won't come out and have his mug shot

so you can see the toupee he wears on top of his head

he spent the whole afternoon chatting with the husband

while he worked on the door frame

and if you time it just right you can have a conversation with him

and have him say

jeeee

at the right time

silly thing

he's a very good thing

the magnolia is bursting at the seams

and the rose bush has a bunch of buds again

and although we saw

 the shadow

of a hummer on the front door

the other evening

most bizzare thing ever

no one is visiting the feeder

I think it needs moving but the resident expert on all things

hummer

says it's just fine where it is

so there aren't any visitors

not good

not good at all

and the hydrangea has three different colours on it

a pink

a bluey purple

and a greenish hue!!!

and the blooms are tiny

no matter what I do or don't do

this garden does as it pleases

nothing is ever as it should be

and I know to just let go and enjoy what I get

voles and moles

bees and wasps

ants by the million

snakes that hide where you need to go

turtles wandering to and fro

cheeky birds

that talk back to you

it's like living in a frigging zoo

and that is good!!!

I am not going out there

I refuse

so I'm in

and I'm staying in

and anyone who stays out there

is nuts

we ran out this morning to get

the resident handyman

his

Papa's day present

early yes

but on sale better!!!

so he's occupied for a while

putting it all together and

dreaming of the things he will do

or could have done had he had it sooner

it's a saw and a table that will hold anything he needs it to hold

and work on

I asked if I could use it to

hold my embroidery

and he said

yes!!!!

 

this is what I have been doing

among other things

I will be coming to the end

of my

"watermelon period"

very soon

I just have to make another set for someone

and then we will move on

to something else

the room is too clean and tidy

need another shot of inspiration

and that "shot" I had the other day

didn't come to anything

again

so off I go back to the cool of the couch

and try to finish what I started
