round and round and round we go

all in a straight line

I saw these round
vintage
rather ugly pillows/cushions
ages ago in a really old film
and always wondered how they were made
flash forward a few years
if not decades
and
pooff
all of a sudden they are everywhere
in the backgrounds of photos
on TV sets
such as the knitting and crochet programme I watch
then of course all over the internets
and then the other day

(the practice one)

there was a close up of one on someones blog
and I could kick myself I didn't mark which one
because in the spotlight of two and two coming together
I failed to fav it
there before my eyes was the answer to how it is done
it's called short rows
I think

:)

it's something I keep hearing and reading as I travel the
well knitted paths
 that one does these days
short rows are literally
rows that aren't finished
you reach a certain area and just turn around and go back where you came from
simple
as always

something that sock makers know all about
apparently
heels are made with
short rows

DHUH!!!

so with that in mind I set off on the journey to see if I could make a
round pillow/cushion
and
I have

big big grin inserted here
really
BIG

oh much bigger than that

:)

  1. How clever you are to figure it all out! Looking forward to seeing it all done. Have heard of short rows too but never used it. :)

  5. So not ugly! I've just had a request to make a cushion just like this from my daughter. She wants eggshell blues and reds. She's into the London look and works for a leading Brit artist. It must be tres cool!!!
