Monday, Monday

It is Memorial Day here in the States
the day we have to thank those
who have
left the shores of home
and
gone away to
fight for what we call
Freedom.
Some returned
and
some
never did.
I am old enough to
remember
several of these
times,
and
I wonder
how many more I will see.
Today
we watch as the oil
fills the Gulf of Mexico.
We watch as
groups of people
kill eachother
and
blame the other for it.
We hear the world rise up
and
demand justice
for whichever
group
they think needs it.
We see thousands
march in the streets
condeming
racism
and
bigotry.
We hear
words of hate
and
violence.
We hear so called
men of god
rant and rave
about the fires of hell
consuming their enemies
and
the righteous
rising above it all.
We watch our children
go off to a war without end
to a land
where people kill eachother
and
blame the other for it.
Where hatred and predjudice
runs rampant
and
bombs explode
and
kill the innocent.
This is how it has been
forever.
The rich get richer
and
the poor
get sent off to war
and
if they are lucky
they get to hear our thanks.
We never learn
do we?

Just something I was thinking about today.

  1. I am saddened by your message, but agree with you. Strange that we never seem to learn ...

  2. I totally cannot understand it either. If we in blogs and the flickr community from all over the world and with various backgrounds get along so well.....it is sad. Yesterday I was talking to my boys about tanks....and how awful that humans actually build these tanks to kill or get protection from other fellow humans.....:-(
