monday at the desk in...

rotl

found it interesting how many say it's hard to do this stitch
I hope the video I linked to
 helps you try it again
or for the first time
this is what is called
brainless work once you have it figured out

not that you have to be brainless to do it
no no no

it's so easy, you can do it without thinking about it
!!!

:)

is making one too
only hers is much prettier as the yarn is mohair and the colours deeper
and she's making the knots much smaller
I saw hers after I had seen some somewhere
probably on Ravelry
and the variegated yarn she is using sparked the thought I should make one
I only had that one ball, which is why I had to go back and get a second

(I am continuing with another yarn I have
you'll see it down a bit on the page)

while I was re-organizing
the organization
of the organizing
I came across the embroidery I had bought a while ago
I saw a pillow on someones blog
and as it was in the first days of my blog hopping I was pretty shy about asking where she had got it
but I asked and was told she found it on e-bay  :(

(it's an old old piece from Avon of all places and it's.......from 1974!!!!
reminded me of the things I used to make when I was a mere child)
!!!!!

so when I heard that I gave up thinking I would ever have it
and then
and then
while looking through Etsy one day
THERE was the pillow
unfinished, still in it's bag
in perfect condition
and she wanted $20 for it
I gave her the $20 and when it came I put it away
and two years later or more now
it's on the desk and I've done a couple of squares
and I'm not using the nasty old "wool"
I using some lovely
new DMC thread

for being an oldie

the fabric is in amazingly good shape

and using the thread makes it
less

old looking

above is an example of what happens when you do it in the evening
and can't see that you changed colour
but I may just leave it
flowers do do that sometimes
change colour mid way!!!
and it shows that I am not a mere child anymore!!!
the eyesight is getting as old as the piece!!!

after I posted yesterday
I started on the other shawl
sat outside with it for a while
the weather is being so well behaved these days
cool and rainy and sun shiny with pretty white clouds floating overhead
so I just sat and hooked
until the bloody mowers and chain saws and leaf blowers
started up
men and their noisy toys
and no it wasn't the hubs
it was all the other hubs
!!!!

so I came back inside
cooked dinner
and just kept hooking
all evening long
because it's brainless
and easy and fun
and
so am I!!!!

"pull up loop
yo
pull through lp, sc in back strand of long lp"

I'll finish it today as I have little else to do
it's raining again
the house is still presentable
it's too early to care about dinner
so I'll be here hooking
sewing when the wrist gets tired
and hoping those in the
path of the flood waters
are sensible  enough to get out of the way
and know that
plastic and duct tape aren't going to keep you safe and dry!!!!
?????

have a good day all
I'll "see" you soon.....

"If you've never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul
by a flower in spring bloom,
maybe your soul has never been in bloom."
 --Terri Guillemets

no ufos here...

I think the bowl has been identified and if so
it's even more of a bargain
than first thought
lucky me
huh!!!
I don't care if it is or isn't
(but I think it is)
I have it
and that's all that counts!!!

went on a little trip up the road in between raindrops yesterday
I had to get another ball of yarn
because I only bought one for some unknown reason
and the husband had to replace something he broke the other day

I am getting worried about the
useless craft store
it seems to be revamping
like so many other establishments of commerce
are these days
and they seem to be taking out what is wanted and bringing in
crap!!!
sorry, but that's what it is
things that will be on the clearance shelves in a few weeks

the grocery stores are doing the same thing
taking what is popular and always out
and putting rubbish on the shelves
we found a really good tea that both of us liked
it just happened to be
Tetley British Brew
:)
nice black tea... plain and simple and
tasty
 it isn't there anymore
but if you want
every flavour you can imagine added to your tea
then by all means be our guest
and those paper towels you use, that last a whole day and that actually stay together even if you scrub
no... sorry, we offer these fall apart if you even think of water ones
the more you have to use
the more we have to sell
drives me up the
wall
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

like the flowers they have to offer this year
adverts on TV tell you and show you all the beauties blooming and looking lush
and just drooly
and no I don't believe everything I see on tee vee
:)
but go to the store
and
you find half dead, dried up, even though it just rained, ugly, yucky, messes...
and the prices
HUH!!!
I am not paying $5 for a dead plant and one wouldn't do it anyway coz they are on the small side at that price
and the prices
went up for Mother's Day last week
almost $30 for a pot of ugly and the kids were all smiles
 but the Dads weren't
:(

so I got the yarn
and we got what he broke
and then some!!

I saw this and fell in love
as I do...

(the pots not the shriveled up plants)

they're called
cupcake pots
;)
and are attached to the tray
as I was walking through the store with it clutched  in my hot little hands
I got admiring glances and two ladies asked where I had found it

I didn't have the heart to tell them
I got the last one
:)

and the yarn I had to get was because
I found something I had to make
NOW
and I did
and then ran out of yarn

Lover's Knot
Solomon's Knot
Celtic Knot
Never ending Knot
call it what you will

I call it
DONE!!!!

finished
finito
fait
terminado
terminou
färdiga

and I love it
so seldom that I start and finish
so no ufos
(un finished objects)
here today!!!!
it's half wool and half acrylic

so of course I had to start another
with the cotton I got in
Nag's Head
hope this flies off the hook as fast as the first!!!

the evening was spent on the couch
spaghetti and meatballs
lemon pudding
:)
a cup of tea
scary movies
accompanied by a
huge rolling thunder and lightning storm
that dumped
wonderful rain on us
without any drama

and it made the flowers go boom

and mr froggy smile once again

:)

EDIT...
OOPPss sorry forgot to add the link to the stitch
just try it
you'll find out it isn't hard
really it isn't
hey
I did it
and you know what a twit I am
just try it
you can do it
promise
!!!

the geese

we have a family

just one this year

they let me snap them this morning

but they didn't let their own kind come too close
I wish you could have heard the noise at this point
the two in the back were letting papa know they were not happy
to be rejected

one came to see the babies

and they let it

what made me go outside was the mother goose
chasing off a nosy parker
who must have gotten too close
so she was already upset
when I arrived
and as I have learnt to stay still and not too close
they are beginning to ignore me
I like it when they do that!!!

bargain bowl

this is the .99c bowl I got at the charity shop

it remeinded me of the russian
palekh
boxes

I have one
 for sure and
maybe
a second one
but this makes a nice little collection
of look a likes
if not
likes!!!

it is papier mache
decoupaged
for sure

and considering it was on the shelves of a charity shop

in really good condition
I was thrilled to find it
I snatched it up so quickly
there was a sonic boom

that visit was the best one yet

:)
