wet, almost wordless wednesday....

because of a slight shift in the direction of the storm we have been spared the winds and the tornados
but the amount of water that has fallen on us today has been spectacular
it;s running out from under the house like someone turned a tap on

and down the sides

the ditch at the bottom of the garden is filling up

and during a brief lull in the downpours
sammy came out to have a snack

and the swan floated right onto the next door lawn...

she's all alone and it still breaks my heart

the water is up over the neighbour's wall and the geese went with it!!!
so nothing to complain about
other
than
it's
very
wet.

the blue ones are known as bluettes, or johnnie-jump-up, the lime green is euonymus, and the purple is ajuga......
 bless you!!!!!

fire in the sky and... a stud in a rug...

fire in the sky one evening

to be picked up in the Japanese Maple
who's back in all its glory... no, no tinkling sound upon arrival, just departure!!!

and the first sighting of babies....
(bad shot as I hurried to capture them and they were running for cover as it was beginning to rain...)

on a grey rainy day

that's good for the new flowers at the bottom of the steps

and then...

and then...

and then.... he came..
he flew right by me ...to make sure I saw him
and landed
and said
I'm back woman...
your stud in a rug...
my cat bird, or his grandson, who knows
there's a cat bird in the garden
so
 can it all be bad?
Yes,
but he's back to make me smile...

:)x
( he's a stud in a rug because it looks like he's wearing a toupee on his noggin... and he likes to thinks he's a stud...don't they all???!!!)

'nother spring, 'nother coaster... toot

US terms
stitches used
magic ring
chain
single crochet
double crochet
not my design just a block I picked up along the way!

(edited: have discovered that this is called  the Willow pattern..so that's what it is )

in a magic ring make
ch 3 15 dc (16 sts)
join to 3rd ch at start

(I changed colours to make the toot easier to see, you choose what you wish)

row 1:
ch 4 in join  (first dc plus ch 1)
ch 1, 1 dc  in each dc around (16 sts 16 ch)

row 2:
ch 3 in join
2 dc in ch 1 space
1 dc in dc in previous row
(1dc in dc, 2 dc in ch 1 sp)

row 3:
this row makes the chain that you will stitch into to make the last row
in any sp between  dc's make
1 sc and then ch 5,  ( this is the corner space)
skip two sts and make 1 sc, ch 2,  1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc ch 5 ( you're at the next corner)
repeat this on the other three sides
1 sc ch 2, 1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc ch 2, 1 sc , then ch 5

see there are four sc in between the corner ch 5's
and the sc are in between the sts
it makes for a more stable edge...
now we start on the final row already
and it's just as easy as the rest has been

row 4:
in the ch 5 space make 5 dc, ch 2,  5 dc,
corner made

in the next ch 2 space
1 sc
then in the next ch 2 space make 5 dc
1 sc in next ch 2 space

and now you are at the corner again
make 5 dc, ch 2, 5 dc,
and repeat around til you reach the end with a 1 sc in last ch 2 sp
join to beginning ch 3 with a slip stitch and fasten off

and you have
 another coaster

for another
Spring

if you make three more you'll have four

and four more would be great
coz then you'll have eight!!!

you could keep going and make twelve and using "join-as-you-go" you could make a "doily" to match
they go so quickly, you'd have one for you and one as a gift ??!!
as always if there is a mistake or a problem (coz remember I'm not a pattern writer!!) just let me know
have fun, make lots and enjoy
maybe have a cool beverage out in the spring air

:)

so there we were buzzing along with spring
blue skies and big puffy clouds

flowers making a comeback in the form of
the daffodils

and the Crab apple blossoms making an appearance at last

and then yesterday dawned
and in the way of the present
 wackyness
it got dark, really dark...
the temperatures plummeted
the wind changed course
and the rains come in with gusto
we went from warm and mild to
"winter's back again"

but, as long as I can capture one fairy dancing in the rain

and the gutter's don't fall off the house!!

all's well with the world
(I wish)

there are those of you who have been around here long enough to know
I can always find something bright and cheery to do
I can no longer be referred to as
a beige person
any longer

and I am not known to
blow my own trumpet very often
but blow the trumpet I will with
these

I love 'em
I love 'em
I love ' em

:)
